“Take above all these things the shield of faith, with which you will be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the evil one.” – Ephesians 6:16
The shield of faith is part of the spiritual armor that believers are encouraged to use to resist spiritual forces and challenges. It represents confidence in God’s protection and promises. In a broader sense, it symbolizes the faith believers have in God’s ability to protect and guide them through life’s difficulties.
Our faith in God protects us during trials, like a shield in battle. When doubt creeps in and our beliefs are challenged, our faith in Christ, who is the Word, protects us. When circumstances try to make us doubt and the devil seeks to eliminate us, particularly through anxiety and fear, we hold up our shield of faith, believing that God is who He says He is and that He will do everything He says, even when it seems impossible.

When we’re under fire, it’s time to raise that shield in faith, proclaiming loud and clear what God’s Word says. And like a muscle, the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. Smith Wigglesworth, one of the pioneers of the Pentecostal revival and recognized by many as the apostle of faith, said:
“Great faith is the product of great struggles. Great testimonies are the result of great trials. Great triumphs can only be born of great trials. Yes, the seeds of faith are always within us, but sometimes it takes a crisis to nurture them and make them grow.”
“Great faith is the product of great struggles where we’ve learned to use the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.“
When we encounter a challenge, the enemy’s primary intention is to weaken our faith. Every word you have received from God and believed will be tested. When we understand this, it becomes important to stand firm when a situation tests our faith, because if our faith is never tested, how could we learn to trust it? No matter how long it takes or how difficult it may seem, don’t give up on this journey of faith. Follow the example of Abraham, the father of faith, who:
“Even when there was no reason for hope, he kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, ‘That’s how many descendants you will have!’” (Romans 4:18)
Prayer: God you are my shield, my protection and in you alone I put my trust. I will not be afraid of the devil. Holy Spirit teach me how to use this shield of faith that I can develop a great faith.
