I love sport and all its challenges. I’m extremely competitive and particularly fond of winning. If I play, it’s to win and nothing else. I currently play soccer with a team of young Christians and together, despite our rather mediocre level, we try to snatch at all costs as many points as possible for the end of the championship.
Over the years, I’ve discovered the key ingredient in the recipe for triumph: the pre-match mentality. The match doesn’t start when we step out onto the pitch, it starts in the dressing room. Our motivation has to be high, our concentration deep and our thirst for victory pressing, even if we haven’t even touched a ball yet! That way, we can enter the game with determination, without letting our opponents take us by surprise.

My friends, this earthly life is a school for the life to come. Our time on earth is a training for eternity that we will spend reigning with Jesus. Let us prepare, watch and pray, be sober and await our coming Bridegroom with joy and hope. The trials, losses, disappointments, betrayals and pains we experience in our walk of faith will one day make sense and be useful to us. In the light of eternity, we’ll be infinitely grateful for all the tribulations we’ve overcome, because our reward will be great!

So don’t lose heart. Look to Jesus, take a deep breath and remember that one fine day, all your worries, all your struggles, all your ups and downs, will be worth it because you’ll find yourself face to face with the Lamb of God.
“Blessed is the man who endures a trial patiently, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12)
Prayer: Father, prepare me for the world to come. Help me to watch and pray. Help me to love Your Son more than anything else.
