“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again, my Savior and my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember You…”—Psalm 42:5-6
We all face moments when life feels overwhelming. As I wrote this, I was finding myself in that very place. The night before I couldn’t sleep, my mind racing with the weight of challenges and worries that seemed too big to handle. It felt like every thought leads to another problem, and peace seems just out of reach. The psalmist knew this feeling well. He was honest about his discouragement, but he didn’t stay there. Instead, he made a powerful choice, he decided to put his hope in God. And that’s exactly what I chose to do on that day, to trust God even in the midst of my struggles.
You see, hope isn’t about pretending everything is perfect. It’s about trusting that even in the darkest moments, God is still in control. It’s about remembering who He is, even when our hearts feel heavy. Hope is the anchor that keeps us steady when the storms of life try to toss us around. The Good News is, we don’t have to carry our burdens alone. The Holy Spirit is with us, ready to lift our spirits and remind us of God’s faithfulness.
“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again, my Savior and my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember You…”
Psalm 42:5-6
When we put our hope in God, we are not denying the reality of our problems, but we are choosing to believe in a greater reality, that God is bigger than our challenges. It’s a daily decision, sometimes even a moment-by-moment one. But with each choice to trust Him, our hearts grow stronger, our faith deepens, and our peace multiplies.
I recall a man named Thomas, from Zurich, Switzerland, who faced a season of intense discouragement. After his business failed and he lost his savings, Thomas felt like giving up. The weight of providing for his family and the fear of an uncertain future consumed his thoughts. But instead of letting despair take over, he made a conscious decision to put his hope in God. Every morning, he would wake up and declare God’s promises over his life, even when his circumstances showed no signs of improvement. He spent time in prayer, thanking God in advance for the breakthroughs he had yet to see. Thomas also surrounded himself with people of faith who encouraged him to keep trusting in God’s plan.
Weeks turned into months, but Thomas remained steadfast. He praised God for His faithfulness, trusting that better days were ahead. Eventually, a new business opportunity came his way, one that not only restored his finances but also aligned with his passions and values. This experience didn’t just rebuild his livelihood; it deepened his relationship with God.
“Hope isn’t the absence of struggles, but the presence of God’s faithfulness in the midst of them.“
My friend, no matter how difficult life gets, hope in God never disappoints. If your heart feels heavy today, remember this: you are not alone. God sees your pain, and He is with you. He walks beside you through every valley and lifts you up when you feel you can’t go on. When you choose to put your hope in Him, even in the middle of discouragement, He will lift you up. Praise Him, even when it feels hard, and watch how His peace begins to fill your heart. His love is unwavering, and His promises are true.
Prayer: Father, when I feel discouraged, help me put my hope in You. Remind me of Your faithfulness and fill my heart with Your peace. I trust that You are with me, even in difficult times. Lift my spirit and help me praise You through every season. Strengthen my faith and guide me through every challenge, knowing that You are my refuge and strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
