“For we live by believing and not by seeing.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7
The world’s morals and values are constantly changing, and basing ourselves on them is like trying to walk on quicksand. When it comes to marriage, personal relationships, sexual identity, money or anything else that’s important to us, what wasn’t acceptable yesterday is acceptable in today’s world, but may change again tomorrow.
Only a solid faith in God’s Word can help us to live in a stable and encouraging way. Thank God for His Word’s teachings on faith concerning God’s eternal truths that keep us stable and on track.
In 2 Corinthians 5:7 it says: “For we walk by faith, not by sight”. People tend to accept as real only what they can see and hear in the physical sense. But there’s more to reality than what meets the eye. “Now faith is the assurance/confirmation of things hoped for, being the proof of things not seen and the conviction of their reality” (Hebrews 11:1). Faith perceives as real fact that which is not revealed to the senses.

When we cling to God’s Word, our faith will not be shaken. Truth is truth, no matter what lens the world uses to see what’s going on around us. Just because someone tells us something is true, regardless of their authority, doesn’t make it true. When I was a child, my parents regularly reminded me that just because everyone’s doing something doesn’t mean it’s right. The Bible reminds us, “Let us not be carried away by various and strange doctrines…” (Hebrews 13:8-9).
What comes before our minds is strongly influenced by what, or whom, we focus our attention on. The devil does everything he can to get us to take our eyes off Jesus and focus on the turbulence that surrounds us and is becoming more and more numerous. He knows very well that if he can capture our attention, he can poison our way of thinking. We must resist what we know to be evil and sinful, no matter how hostile the world may be.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us reject all that hinders us and the sin that so easily ensnares us. And let us run with perseverance the race that has been mapped out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy that was set before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you do not grow weary and lose heart.” (Hebrews 12:1-3)
Without faith in the Word, it’s hard to endure life when we see the perversions around us. When everything seems backward, we know that Jesus will restore the situation in due time. We can rest assured that God is still God.
Prayer: Thanks God for Your Word that produces in me faith to live in this world according to Your standard. I’m not afraid of the turbulences or things that could destabilized me, as I’m rooted in your Word and Promises.
