Turn your eyes upon Jesus

“Looking unto Jesus” – Hebrew 12:2

It is always the job of the Holy Spirit to turn our eyes away from ourselves and turn them upon Jesus.  But the work of Satan is exactly the opposite; he continuously tries to make us turn our eyes upon ourselves instead of turning them upon Christ. He insinuates: “Your sins are too big to be pardoned, you do not have faith; you do not repent enough; you can´t ever continue to achieve the end; you do not have the joy of God´s children; you have a relationship with Jesus which is so flickering”. All these thoughts are thoughts concentrated on us, and we will never find solace or assurance when looking at ourselves.

“Looking unto Jesus”
Hebrew 12:2

But the Holy Spirit turns our eyes completely away from our person: He tells us that we are nothing, but that Christ is all for us. Remember your prayers to Christ do not save you – it´s Christ; it is not your joy in Christ that saves you – it´s Christ; it is not even your faith in Christ, even if this is faith is an instrument – it´s only the blood and the virtue of Christ.

Do not look at your hand by means of which you “take” Christ and Christ only; do not look at your hope, but at Jesus, the source of your hope; do not look at your faith, but at Jesus, the chief and consumer of your faith.

We will never find happiness by looking at our prayers, our acts or our feelings; it is all about Jesus and not what we are, and what gives us rest for our soul. When we want to defeat Satan and have peace with God, it is only while turning our eyes upon Jesus, that this will be accomplished.

“It is all about Jesus and not what we are, that gives us rest for our soul. ”

Keep your eyes turned upon him; so that his death, sufferings, goodness, glories, and intercession will always be present in your heart. When you wake up in the morning, look at him; when you go to sleep in the evening, look at him. Do not allow your hope or fears to intervene between you and Jesus; follow him with eagerness, and he will never abandon you.

There is this magnificent hymn which never ceases to resonate in my spirit, while writing these lines:

My hope is built on nothing less

Than the blood of Jesus and his virtue

I do not believe the soft governments

But I completely deliver myself to the name of Jesus

Prayer: Thank you, Holy Spirit, as you help me to turn my eyes upon Jesus. Teach me how to remain in him. Open the eyes of my heart so that I can see his beauty and contemplate his goodness. Hallelujah. I adore you, Lord. I decide from today on to keep my eyes turned upon Christ as he is my hope, the source of life, my salvation, my faith and my love. In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
