Trusting the Lord means trusting His word

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5

The only way to trust the Lord is to trust his Word. You can’t trust the Lord without trusting His Word. God and his Word are one, just as you and your Word are one. And the Good News is that God’s Word is good because God is Good.

God watches over His Word. And The Lord said to me, ‘You have seen well, for I will hasten the execution of my word’ (Jeremiah 1:12). Another version says: “I watch over my word to fulfill it”. In order to allow His Word to work in our lives, we must receive it. God wants you to have what His Word promises. The way to appropriate God’s Word is to act on it. Let’s do what it says!

When I trust the Word with all my heart and stop relying on human reasoning, then I have actions that match my faith. My actions are in perfect communion with what comes out of my mouth, namely my confession of faith. When our minds are cluttered with human reasoning, let our minds be renewed by God’s Word, so that our actions correspond to our confession of faith.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5

As long as there are no corresponding actions, there will be continuously failures in life. I can confess and say that God is the strength of my life. But if, at the same time, I continue to talk about my weaknesses and my lack of faith, I will be defeated because there is no corresponding action. When I resort to human methods instead of trusting the Lord it sows confusion and weakness in my mind bringing failure into my life. There’s only one thing to do, and that’s to turn to God’s Word and act on it.

Our worst enemy is the flesh. The flesh and natural human reasoning limit us to our own abilities. We look at circumstances, problems, trials and storms and say we can’t. The language of doubt, the flesh and the senses are, “I can’t. I don’t have the ability, opportunity or strength. I’ve been limited.” But the language of faith says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13). Paul didn’t say he could do all things because he was an apostle and had special power or grace. He said, “I can do all things through Christ…” and we have the same access to Christ. Paul said, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away, and all things have become new” (II Corinthians 5:17). You too are a new creature in Christ. Christ doesn’t belong to Paul any more than he does to you.

“When natural or spiritual forces oppose you, they can’t defeat you because there aren’t enough natural and spiritual forces in the whole world to defeat the One who dwells in you.”

Jean-Luc Trachsel

When natural or spiritual forces oppose you, they can’t defeat you because there aren’t enough natural and spiritual forces in the whole world to defeat the One who dwells in you. “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (I John 4:4). You are strengthened not from the outside but from the inside by His Word. Not only am I born of God, but the spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in me. I have God’s wisdom, strength and ability within me. I’m learning to let that wisdom rule my intellect. I let it rule my spirit and speak through my lips. And in the presence of all my weaknesses and limitations I say: “God is my ability”. And in the face of worries do what His Word says: “Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you” (I Peter 5:7). In the face of my enemies, I declare with faith that “The Lord is the strength of my life; whom shall I fear?” (Psalms 27:1). And in Christ, I can lay my heel on weakness, fear and inability to destroy them in Jesus’ name.

God’s strength is mine. I don’t rely on my own strength, because the Bible doesn’t say a word about my strength. It says that God is my strength. God’s strength and ability are ours. Let’s claim them and act on His Word. To trust in the Lord is to trust in His Word.

Prayer: Dear God, I decide to trust in You with all my heart. And Holy Spirit teach me how not to lean on my own understanding but to put my trust in God’s Word only.
