The efficacy of prayer

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” – Philippians 4:6

Life can be a mixture of good and bad things. When things go wrong, we have a choice of how to handle the situation. We can try to settle it alone, cross our fingers and hope for the best, but we will most likely find out the hard way that our efforts are not enough to turn things around.

The real wisdom is to realize that we need God’s help, which leads us to pray and turn sincerely to God. Adversity can come in the form of divorce, job loss, health problems, family or marital problems, or a thousand other ways. The Good news is that God, our Father, will answer your prayers to save you.

The Bible tells us that it is a matter of “when”, not “if”, problems will appear in our lives. Every person faces challenges in their life. When they do, a heart-to-heart conversation with God about the situation is strongly encouraged. If you talk with Him, this will bring new light to what you are experiencing. It’s written in Jeremiah 33:2-3 “This is what the LORD says-the LORD who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the LORD. Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.”

Many people never learned how to pray properly. For some, as children they were given a standard set of verses or words written by others to memorize and repeat, and that was called praying. But true prayer comes from the heart, not the head. God knows how we feel and, like a loving father with his children, he delights to hear us in prayer. God knows very well that fear can paralyze us when misfortune – the enemy – problems strike us. His will is that we trust him enough to let him bring us through this trial unscathed. He promises to never abandon us or let us down.

The God who made all creation loves us so much that when we believe what he tells us and accept his Son as our personal Savior, we become his own children. He enriches our lives and empowers us to overcome any fear, temptation or negative emotion that stands against us.

When we read His Word and meditate on all the promises it contains, we cannot help but give thanks and praise to God for who He is. Always be joyful, never stop praying and be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. This attitude is what makes true prayer so powerful.

Prayer: Thanks God that I can talk to you and share my heart knowing that you are listening to my prayers. You are such a great God and forever I’m grateful to have you as my only God but also as a wonderful good dad taking care of me in every situation.
