How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions?

“Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” – 1 Kings 18:21

So many people are tossed and turned from one side to the other preventing them from being stable emotionally but also in their daily including spiritual life. They are heckled and torn between good and the attraction of evil which at first is very seductive. The key to being happy is simple: Don’t waver between two opinions.

Like the people of Israel, many waver in their judgment and vary in their practice. And that is why the prophet Elijah challenged the people of Israel to determine whether God or Baal was the supreme, self-existent God, the Creator, Governor and Judge of the world, and to follow only him. It is dangerous to vacillate between the things of God and the things of sin, the dominion of Christ and the dominion of our lusts, serving God or serving the world.

If Jesus is the only Savior, let us trust Him alone in all things. If the Bible is the word of God, let us respect and receive it in its wholeness, and submit our minds to the divine teaching it contains. Elijah proposed to put the matter on trial. Baal had every outward advantage, but the event encourages all God’s witnesses and defenders never to fear the face of man. The God who answers by fire, let him be God: atonement had to be made by sacrifice, before judgment could be withdrawn by mercy. The God who has the power to forgive sin, and to signify it by consuming the sin offering, must therefore be the God who can relieve from calamity.

Let’s decide forever to follow God and His principles. By taking this vital decision, we are like a tree that plants its roots in a safe place. This decision costs us some looking attractive aspects of life but they are only vanity and lead us into sin separating us from God’s plans. Whereas clinging to God and His principles keeps us from this unpleasant instability bringing to much frustration, misunderstanding and disillusionment.

“Holding on to God and His word with all your heart without being swayed by various opinions is the source of happiness. ”

Jean-Luc Trachsel

God gave us a free will. We are free to choose whom we want as our master. And while you are an extraordinary person for whom God has plans for peace and happiness, decide whom you will follow and trust. You are far too valuable to be torn between trusting God today, trusting money tomorrow, and trusting only yourself another day, leaving God out…

God is an extremely good God and as you choose not to change your mind, namely to remain attached to God and His principles, you will discover a feeling of lightness and well-being where the tension will disappear. Holding on to God and His word with all your heart without being swayed by various opinions is the source of happiness. Take the decision to serve God and God alone where His promises and blessings will be your portion.

Prayer: Lord God, you are the only God who is truly the Creator of the whole Universe. You created me and your principles are a high security for my life. Today, I decide to follow you forever and don’t want to be wavered between two opinions. You are my only God and I will serve you forever.
