“Thou shalt not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow of the day, nor the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor the devastation of the noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, ten thousand at thy right hand, but they shall not touch thee… No evil shall befall thee, no plague shall come near thy dwelling” – Psalm 91:5-7, 10 The times we live in, our environment is taking on the strange appearance of a major collapse. There’s a devil on the loose in the world and he’s working hard knowing he’s not playing his best cards but his last ones. The news constantly report new diseases, violent crimes, international threats and lots of negative things. It’s intimidating at best, terrifying at worst. However, we have no reason to fear when we read the Bible’s promise of divine protection. Violence and strife are nothing new. They’ve been around since the beginning of time. If they seem to be intensifying, it’s not a figment of our imagination. Jesus himself predicted global unrest thousands of years ago, but he reassured us by warning. “When it comes to wars and rumors of wars, keep a cool head and don’t panic. It’s common history; it’s not a sign of the end. Nations will fight nations and rulers will fight rulers, again and again. Famines and earthquakes will occur in various places” (Matthew 24:6, 7).

God has good news full of promises for those who trust in Him. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4). As we study the Scriptures, we read in multiple verses that God keeps those who trust in Him safe from harm. “Thou shalt not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow of the day, nor the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor the devastation of the noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, ten thousand at thy right hand, but they shall not touch thee… No evil shall befall thee, no plague shall come near thy dwelling” (Psalm 91:5-7, 10). David wrote these psalms and many others because he had great confidence that God would protect him, despite repeated attempts by a jealous King Saul to kill him. When we believe what is written in the Bible rather than what we see and hear, we begin to feel a great peace settling around us. God’s Word is the ultimate wisdom and truth that never changes. Listening to, meditating on and proclaiming what She says brings us stability and calm. “He who listens to Me will dwell in safety, he will be secure, he will not fear misfortune” (Proverbs 1:33). Taking these promises with deep conviction will eventually have outward manifestations. Others will look at us and wonder how we can remain so solid in the midst of the turmoil around us. |

Accepting God’s assurances by faith activates a supernatural level of protection not only for ourselves, but also for our family and loved ones. For some people, the world around them is so frightening that just getting out of the house is a big step. Fortunately, God, who created the earth, the heavens and everything in them, ensures the safety of those who believe. “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. Such is the inheritance of the servants of the Lord, and such is their vindication with me, declares the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17). Whether the evil we see is on the other side of the world, in our neighborhood or right outside our door, God is bigger, stronger and more powerful. When we feel like the young David battling the mighty Philistine giant, we can remember how it ended – he didn’t just kill Goliath, he beheaded him. Our faith in God’s promises brings us an equally important victory. |
Prayer: Father God, thank you for all your promises regarding the protection of my life and my family. I will not get troubled by the situations or the news as my eyes and faith are turned towards you. I don´t need to be worried as You watch over me. I hide myself in you and believe in your promises.
