“The LORD rewarded me for doing right; he restored me because of my innocence.” – 2 Samuel 22:21

The song contained in this chapter is the same as Psalm 18. This inspired or was manifestly the effusion of a mind glowing with the highest fervor of piety and gratitude, and it is full of the noblest imagery that is to be found within the range even of sacred poetry. It is David’s grand tribute of thanksgiving for deliverance from his numerous and powerful enemies and establishes him in the power and glory of the kingdom.

In verse 21, there is an extraordinary promise that reveals to us the very nature of God. God is a righteous God, and He does not tolerate injustice. It is true that I have many questions when I look at this world that is full of injustice. And I think if I were God, I would step in and be the Robin Hood of the 21st century. But thank God, I am not God! He is the Almighty, Sovereign God who holds everything in His hand. And even though I don’t understand everything yet, I trust Him completely as in Him there is no injustice.

“The LORD rewarded me for doing right; he restored me because of my innocence.”
2 Samuel 22:21

I know that I am called to be like Him. In Him, there is no injustice, and He commits no injustice. Our Creator God is fundamentally just. And because of His justice, He will never abandon the righteous innocent. No one is perfect, but what determines that we are righteous is being in Christ. It is written in 1 Corinthians 1:30 ‘By Him you are in Christ Jesus, who by God was made unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption’. When we are born again, therefore His children, we are in Jesus Christ who was made unto us righteousness through His redemption. Thus, “I am found in Him, not with my righteousness which is of the law, but with that which is by faith in Christ, the righteousness which is of God through faith” Philippians 3:9

The Good News is that by our faith in Jesus Christ, we are found righteous from God´s point of view. This does not mean that we never make mistakes. And if we do, it’s important to repent, to ask God and the people who have been offended for forgiveness. As you are righteous in Christ Jesus, He will stand up for you when you face injustice.

“Our God, who is just and in whom there is no injustice, will always restore the innocent. ”

Jean-Luc Trachsel

And God promises you His intervention, as everyone faces injustices and some of them are very difficult and can cause damages that seem irreparable. If you have experienced injustices that have hurt you, God tells you that He will restore you. We don’t always understand the events and difficulties we face. But God is with you and will stand up for you. As you forgive those who have wronged you, God will be able to intervene on your behalf to give you justice. As you are His child, He wants to restore you as the person He loves so much.

In conflicts, most of the time each party thinks that it is innocent. But let’s not forget that God knows each situation and the depths of each person’s heart that determine the root of the problem. But it is important not only to know who is at fault but to keep a straight and humble heart that forgives those who have offended us to allow God to take our defense, not only by giving us justice but especially by restoring us.

Prayer: Lord God, I thank you that you care for the innocent. You know my heart, and while I have suffered injustice, I thank you that you restore me.
