Fed and watered supernaturally

The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook.

1 Kings 17:6

Elijah was God’s prophet to the northern kingdom during the reigns of the third-dynasty kings Ahab (874–853 BC) and Ahaziah (853–852 BC) and into that of Joram (852–841 BC). Elijah showed his commitment to the LORD by declaring that he served the living God of Israel. He was a man moving in the supernatural of God like he withheld the dew and rain as a direct affront to the false god Baal, who supposedly controlled these natural forces. Their absence until God led Elijah to give the word initiated the contest with Baal that would reach a climax on Mount Carmel. But before this great victory, Elijah was commanded to hide himself.

Sometimes God calls us to solitude and retirement and when He asks us it prepares us to go. There are seasons, even if we don’t like it, we cannot be useful, and we must be patient. When we cannot work for God, we must sit still quietly for Him. The Good news is, when we obey God and go where He asks us to go, He will provide for all our needs.

Then the LORD said to Elijah, “Go to the east and hide by Kerith Brook, near where it enters the Jordan River. Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.” 1 Kings 17:2-4. As the brook Kerith carried the winter rains, there is a brook for you carrying the rains from your Winter season. God is a God of miracles and He is going to turn your winter rain into a blessing for your daily drink. And God commanded the ravens to bring him bread and meat in the morning and in the evening. God could have sent angels to minister to him but he chose to show that he can serve his own purposes by the “meanest creatures”, as effectually as by the mightiest. This was an amazing miracle for creatures of limited intelligence who are afraid of man and have no obvious means of providing food. But God can use anybody, anything and even animals to become a blessing for your lives.

Today is your day, and you are going to experience God’s miracles. The God who gave drink and food to Elijah, is the same God who is going to take care of you supernaturally. Learn to live upon Providence, and trust God for the daily bread. Bread in Hebrew is “Lehem” and we translate this word as the provision and the fruits. Every morning and every night, God will release His command to provide for you and your family but also for your business and ministry. As you are in God’s plan, even if it could be a season to “hide”, he will give you fruits. As you are in God’s appointed location there will be no starving!

Prayer: God of Elijah, I love you as you are my God as well. As you’ve provided supernaturally for Elijah, I believe you will release your command that I may receive every morning and every evening the food and drink I need. Teach me how to rest in You. Teach me how to trust you fully for the daily bread. As I’m following your direction to go to the appointed location there will be no starving at all. You are my provider and I give you all the praise and Glory.
