Beyond our expectations

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” – Ephesians 3 :20

God is good – extremely good. By the way, it is impossible to exaggerate or overestimate his goodness. You can immerse yourself in the volume of his goodness, trying to find any limit, any border, up to when it is finished, but you will find yourself always flabbergasted and dazzled by the extension of his love.

Our father is not only good because of having sent Jesus to die on the cross in our place. Of course, this extravagant act of love to save us is and will remain forever a glorious mystery and a subject of eternal thanks. But the father is also extremely good in what he wants for our good.  Our relationship with God is neither robotic nor bland. He has not called us to be servants but he invites us to become friends. The difference between those two dynamics is that the servant does not know what his master wants to do. He does not know his plans but concentrates exclusively on their accomplishments. The friend sits down at the table. His wishes and his opinion concerning the decisions are also important.

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think”
Ephesians 3 :20

Thus, the will of God is not only to save and leave you alone in this life to struggle in order to survive. On the contrary, he wants to cover you with his love. He wants the dreams which he gave to you to be accomplished. He wants to become your best friend so that you can share your most intimate desires with him, the smallest ones as well as the biggest ones. Psalm 37,4 says: “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

To be completely honest and transparent with you, I think that his presence is all that we need. In his presence are joy, peace, happiness, life, courage, healing and lots more. His presence is our reward. Jesus himself is our gift. In this logic of thinking, we can say that “what our heart desires” is nothing else than God himself. However, I do not think that I am completely and theologically right, having this vision of those things. Several times, the bible teaches us that God is really interested in our dreams and our wishes. Jesus himself has said: “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:7).

“It is impossible to exaggerate or overestimate the goodness of God.”

Imagine how the world would be different if the church would realise the identity it possesses in Christ. In this affiliated position, we allow ourselves to dream, knowing that God is really interested in us. Creativity, solutions to worldwide crises and the wish to follow Jesus will proliferate in all areas of the world!

What about you starting to dream with God? Maybe you have a project from the bottom of your heart, to help the most destitute people of your town or village. Maybe, for several years now you have had the idea of a business, but you have never had the courage to start. Or maybe you simply have the determination to see your nation saved by and for Jesus. I can only encourage you to bring these subjects before your heavenly father. Ask him what you could do. Share your dreams with him, in his presence. In this manner, not arrogant but confident, he will give “above all that you ask or think.

Be abundantly blessed, my dear friends.

Prayer: Thank you father for your goodness. Thank you for having redeemed me and given me the nature of your son. As your son, your daughter, I would like to dream with you. Help me to think like you think, to see like you see, to speak like you speak. Thank you as you answer my prayers and wishes. Your presence is magnificent. I love you so much. In Jesus name. Amen.
