An open heart to hear Him

1 Samuel 3 : 10
“And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.”

Young Samuel was engaged in serving the Lord, together with the prophet Eli. Unfortunately, the voice of the Lord was not often heard in those days, and even visions were rare. Instead, God acts in person and wishes to speak to us and reveal his plan. The good news is that God wants to speak to each of us. And when we study history and especially the Bible stories, God has always used ordinary people like you and me to do extraordinary things.

God is not looking for abnormal people with abnormal talents and powers. He chose a little boy named Samuel. God did not look for a teacher who was highly educated at a prestigious and famous school. But He chose to speak to Samuel, a boy who was home-schooled and went to church! God is not at all against highly educated or talented people. He can speak to a businessman as well as an unemployed person, a farmer – a mechanic – a cleaner or a person of influence. It is not about education or social standing but about a child-like heart with a servant’s heart, ready to hear what God wants to say today.

God seeks you with a simple and willing heart. God is not looking for abilities as much as availability. He is not looking for your money or your talents, but your heart. He just wants your heart to be open and ready to serve Him. We live in a fast-paced society and no longer have time to listen. But God knows that you are available, and that is why he has chosen you to speak to you today, because he is looking for men and women with a child-like heart who are ready to say to him: “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening”!

And as your heart is not only open to hear but to listen to God, He will reveal His plans for your life and the lives of others around you in this particular season. Be ready to listen to God’s word and simply give Him what you have. If you give God the little you have, he will not take it to enrich himself, but he will multiply what you have given him in your favour. God will do more with your life than you ever dreamed possible. If you say, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening,” expect God to reveal his plan for your life that will be greater and more important than you imagine. So make yourself available to Him by opening your servant heart so that He can speak to you and give you a word for this season.

Prayer: Lord, I know that you like to talk to those who have a simple and open heart. I want to be your friend and simply say: “Speak Lord, your servant is listening”, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Quote: If you say, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening,” expect God to reveal his plan for your life that will be greater and more important than you imagine.
