The wisdom of God, the hidden face of the Gospel

“Wisdom hath built her house…. she saith to him: Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled; Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding!” – Proverbs 9 :1-6

The Gospel of Jesus Christ contains two sides, or two sides of the same coin; the “go” and the “come”, or respectively, the proclamation and invitation of the Gospel.

The “go” is the part known by everyone and is based on the commandments of Jesus in Mark 16 :15: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”.  This great mission, ordered by Christ, is shown by a courageous proclamation that Jesus was dead and is risen. He came to the world in order to save the world by his death on the cross. On the 3rd day, the tomb could not hold the Son of God. Jesus is now sitting at the right of his father as King of kings and Lord of lords. Hallelujah! I will never be weary of the power of the Gospel. It is time to preach and to declare everywhere, where we will be going.

“But, the second angle of the Gospel, the “come”, is shown by an invitation for the non-believers to come and discover the wisdom of God shown through his children. “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5 :14).

“Wisdom hath built her house…. she saith to him: Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled; Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding!”
Proverbs 9 :1-6

Imagine pilgrims tired from their journey, totally confused, and in lack of provisions. As they are lost in the dark of the night, they see far away on a hill a beam of light: a city! That´s what they were looking for: a shelter, a secure place, water, food, light, and rest – all this can be found in this city. My friends, it´s the same situation for people who have no personal relationship with God; they are searching for sense and are in real need which the world cannot offer them. However, as ambassadors of Christ, we have all what their heart is looking for.

Here are some examples of daily life to illustrate my words. Perhaps your neighbours have a completely different idea of how you educate your children and they would like to proceed as you do with their own children. They will come and ask you for the key to your success and you could answer them that your God has simply shown you how to educate. Perhaps your colleague perceives throughout several months the excellence of creativity which your work reflects. Intrigued by this precision and this know-how, you could direct him to Christ who has given you these capabilities, and who is himself the incarnated wisdom. Or perhaps your best friend encounters an obstacle that blocks the right function of his life and he doesn´t find any solution to solve this. Nevertheless, you as a child of God, filled with the spirit of wisdom, show him a simple biblical principle that finally will unlock his situation.

“Every human being yearns for a victorious life and looks deep inside himself for a loving father who worries about his needs.”

Briefly spoken, you have understood: Every human being yearns for a victorious life and looks deep inside himself for a loving father who worries about his needs. The excellent news: as children of God, we have access to his wisdom which makes a real difference around us.

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraided not; and it shall be given him. » (Jacques 1:5)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your wisdom inside of me. Thank you as you act through me and with me. May this wisdom and divine power lead people to your salvation, in your marvelous name.
