Guard your heart more than anything else

The heart is the most important space in our lives. The expression “the heart of this mission or the heart of this situation or the very heart of…” is well known and shows us that the heart is the most important organ of life.

This is the reason why we must watch over our heart more than anything else because from it come the sources of life. The point where a stream has its origin is its source. And our life is like a stream that will be influenced by its origin which is the source. If the source is polluted, the stream will be polluted for miles and pollute all the places it will cross.

The devil knows very well that, if we are not careful, by touching and hurting your heart, he can take advantage of it to release a seed full of poison linked to our emotions such as bitterness, unforgiveness, resentment and even hatred. Every human being goes through periods that are more difficult than others, especially in their relationships with others. Misunderstandings, injustices and even untreated treachery are poison that will help the devil find a way to pollute your life.  It is our duty to watch over this vital source. Each of you has experienced certain painful events that have affected you. And you have the choice to make sure that there is no pollution or let this poison be fed by your thoughts and resentments that will rot your life but also the life of others and this years, even until death.

“Guard your heart more than anything else, for from it come the springs of life.”
Proverbs 4:23

The good news is that today, by the Grace of God, you can find or rediscover a pure and free heart that will allow the springs of living water flowing again to be a blessing for yourself and those around you.  You can check the state of your heart by allowing the Holy Spirit to probe it. And if you find any trace of poison, it’s time to bend your knees and ask God for help. The weight of tension and division filled with misunderstanding can be laid at the bottom of the cross of Jesus. And as you decide to forgive those who have offended you despite the deep suffering you allow life to overcome death. Sometimes the pain is so intense that we can ask God for help us to forgive even though it may seem impossible. Forgiveness is a liberating choice that will positively influence your present and future.

I have seen too many people turned away from the glorious calling God had for their lives because they did not take care of their hearts. So today, decide to take matters into your own hands by first humbling yourself and asking for forgiveness for your hard and rigid heart. This step, even though you are probably a victim, will allow you to forgive others more easily in order to eliminate any poison or evil roots to be eliminated to allow the Grace of God and the fruit of His Spirit to flow out of your life.

“Looking after our heart is the most important thing to enable us to remain a source of life and blessings for ourselves and others.”

Jean-Luc Trachsel

Everything that is weighing you down can now be laid at the feet of Jesus. And through His Holy Spirit, you will feel that weight of guilt, anger and other feelings being routed. As the psalmist said, “Oh God, create in me a clean heart, a willing spirit.” May this become your daily prayer.  And may your heart be a wellspring of life that springs forth to be a source of blessings for others, including our enemies.

Prayer: Thank you God for my heart. I ask your Holy Spirit to show me anything that needs to be clean. Create in me a clean heart and a willing spirit. I decide to forgive all those who hurt me but also decide to watch over my heart and not to allow the devil to pollute me.
