Ukraine, the second largest country in Europe after Russia, is situated in Eastern Europe. Its capital is Kiev, a city rich in history and culture.
Historically a crossroads of cultures, Ukraine declared its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Its fertile lands make it a major grain producer. The population of approximately 41 million people is predominantly Ukrainian-speaking, with a significant presence of the Russian language.
Since 2014, Ukraine has been at the center of a conflict with Russia, marked by the annexation of Crimea and a war in the east of the country, which escalated with Russia’s large-scale invasion in February 2022.
