“No one is holy like the LORD, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God. ”
Hannah, Elkanah’s wife, could not be pregnant. She was so sad and filled with bitterness in her soul because of some
injustices and mockery from some people due to her barrenness. But she knew that there was a God and that He was listening to her, so she prayed to the Lord and wept. And she made a vow, saying: O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt deign to look upon the affliction of thy handmaid, and wilt remember me, and wilt not forget thy handmaid, and wilt give thy handmaid a male child, I will consecrate him unto the Lord all the days of his life.
And it came to pass, as she stood in the temple praying before the LORD for a long time, that Eli the prophet observed her mouth. But Hannah spoke in her heart, and only moved her lips, but her voice could not be heard. And Eli thought that she was drunken, and said unto her: How long wilt thou be drunken? Pass your wine. And Hannah said: No, my lord, I am a woman in pain in my heart, and I have not drunkenany wine or intoxicating liquor, but I have poured out my soul before the LORD. Do not take your servant for a perverted woman, for it is the excess of my pain and my sorrow that has made me speak until now. And Eli the prophet answered and said: Go in peace, and let the God of Israel answer thy prayer which thou hast prayed unto him.
And so, God answered Hannah’s wish and she gave birth to one of the great prophets of the history of Israel, whom she named Samuel. Hannah’s heart rejoiced, not at the prophet Samuel, but at the Lord God, who alone could answer her favorably. She looked beyond the gift, and praised the giver. Praise and prayer are inseparably linked in scripture. This beautiful song was her tribute of gratitude for the divine goodness that had answered her request. She declared the threefold character and greatness of God:
- No one is as holy as the Lord
- No one is so great and powerful
- No one is so solid, unshakeable and reliable
If your heart is bitter about some injustices or even mockery, you may have a deep desire to give birth to a child or may be a project that will glorify the Lord, pray unto the Lord and He will answer you. There may be some parts of your life that are barren, but if you ask for Life from the One who is not only the source of life but who is LIFE, He will release in you that creative miracle that you need. As you pour out your heart before God, expect that He will respond to you.
God is Holy but He is also Great and Powerful to answer the deepest desires of your heart. Put your faith not in circumstances or even in men or women who could help you but only in God. And your faith in God who is solid – unshakeable and reliable will enable you in turn to pray to Him but also to sing to Him that there is no one like GOD.
Prayer: God I pour out my heart before you as I need a miracle in my life. I believe like Hannah, there is none like you. And I believe that you will answer my prayer by releasing the miracle I need. Thanks for your LIFE invading my barren place to give birth that will glorify your name.
