Gazing into Heaven

But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily into heaven and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand. – Acts 7:55 (NLT Study Bible)

Nothing is so comfortable and so encouraging to suffering saints as it’s to us, to see Jesus at the right hand of God. Stephen had confessed his Lord faithfully on earth, and now his Lord honored his promise to confess his faithful servant in heaven, standing as a witness to defend him. Stephen was the first martyr and he saw Jesus at God’s right hand usually seated but now he was standing as a witness to defend him.

The good news is through the Holy Spirit and by faith, we may see Him there as well. Our Lord Jesus is God, whom we need to seek, and in whom we are to trust and comfort ourselves, living and dying. And if this has been our care while we live, it will be our comfort when we die.

Being in the midst of trials facing may be accusations and injustice like Stephen, we have the possibility to lift up our eyes and to gaze into Heaven. This earth is not the final destination, but our place is Heaven for those who put their hope and trust in Jesus our defender.

Gazing into heaven is an important key to overcome the injustice and the battles of this earth as we are fulfilling our mission. Instead of having the focus on our enemies and the momentary difficulties, let’s turn our eyes upon the most beautiful smiling face of Jesus. His Glory will invade our daily life to a place that even if we are stoned like Stephen was, we can feel asleep, being able to forgive our accusers and persecutors of our life.

Open yourself to the Holy Spirit as Stephen was full of Him and He will allow you to have this glorious open Heaven experience seeing God the Father and Jesus the son.

Prayer: Jesus, you are the most beautiful and I want to see you. Holy Spirit come upon me and help me despite the earthly circumstances to lift up my eyes. And as I’m gazing into Heaven I’m expecting to see my wonderful Papa God and precious Savior. Jesus you are my defender who is standing for me as I forgive those who trespass me.
