Believe and you will receive

You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.

Matthew 21:22

Jesus taught us a powerful key to see prayer answered. The key is FAITH as it’s crucial in obtaining answers to our prayers. We can ask God for things and not believe we will receive them, thus blocking the answer. God is good, and a loving Father who wants to give us what our heart desires. Often, He puts those desires there in the first place, and longs to fulfill them. He also gave us a will and loves us by allowing us to choose Him and to ask Him for what we want and need.

In these words coming directly from Jesus, He is not saying that He has come to answer all our wishes and prayers. Jesus says “Listen to the truth. If you have no doubt of God’s power and speak out of faith’s fullness, you can speak to a tree and it will wither…or to a mountain to be lifted up and thrown into the sea, and it will be done.” Moving a mountain was a metaphor for doing what was seemingly impossible. Everything you pray for with the fullness of faith, you will receive. Those who believe in God can have confidence that He will accomplish even the impossible, according to His sovereign will.

If you pray earnestly for God’s will, He will clear any obstacle in your path. The mountain is a metaphor Jesus is using to say, there is nothing too big for God. Have confidence in Him, and He will do more than you ask or think. Certainly, these principles have biblical warrant. God delights in doing the impossible. Consider the virgin birth when it is said of God, “For nothing will be impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). God can do more than we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20), and our prayers should not be hindered by our sight.

Having no doubt, having faith’s fullness, believing is our part in receiving the miracle. We limit God when we don’t believe. It is written in Matthew 13:25, that even Jesus could do little miracles because of the lack of faith in His hometown.

Jesus mentions several times when performing miracles, like raising a young girl from the dead, “your faith has healed you” (Matthew 9:22).  When healing the blind men Jesus asks, “Do you believe that I can do this?” They reply, “Yes, Lord!” and He heals them saying, “let it be done according to your faith.” (Matthew 9:28+29)

Only believe and you will see God’s glory! Jesus also said to the crowd who was mourning the death of Lazarus, “Did I not tell you, that if you believed you would see the power of God unveiled?” This was just before He raised him from the dead. (John 11:40)

Faith empowers us with authority. It is a gift from God we can ask for. He is saying to us today, “Ask, seek, knock and you will receive, discover, and have opportunities opened to you. Your loving Father is ready to give wonderful gifts to those who ask Him. Ask in faith.” (Matthew 7:7,8,11b)

“So now we must cling tightly to this hope that lives within us, knowing that God always keeps His promises.” (Hebrews 10: 19,22) Like the saints of old, we too can “inherit all that God has promised through faith”. (Hebrews 6:15)

Continue to repeat God’s promises back to Him, praying that He would fulfill them. Christ has secured them for us through His blood. Our part is to believe and agree with an “amen-so be it”. God is faithful… “For no matter how many promises God has made they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “AMEN IS SPOKEN BY US, bringing Him glory.”
(2 Corinthians 1: 18a,20)

Prayer: Lord, You tell us that our faith is the foundation for us to receive what we hope for. We are like the father in the New Testament, saying, “We believe, help our unbelief.” We repent of unbelief. We open our hearts today to receive a greater impartation of faith and we thank You for it. Father, we want to be Your trusting children. And we believe if we ask You anything according to Your will, we will receive it in Jesus name.
