Psalms 107:1 (NLT)
The psalmist praises God for his kindness to his exiled people. This is a powerful hymn of praise to God the Redeemer. After an introduction exhorting the redeemed to praise God for his goodness (107:1-3), the psalmist brings together four case studies of people who the Lord redeemed from adversity (107:4-32). He then sums up the Lord’s sovereignty (107:33-42) and concludes with an invitation to discern God’s unfailing love in all areas of life (107:43).
The general theme of this Psalm may have been suggested by God’s special favor to the Israelites in their restoration from captivity, it must be considered as an instructive celebration of God’s praise for His merciful providence to all men in their various emergencies. Of these several are given–captivity and bondage, wanderings by land and sea, and famine; some as evidences of God’s displeasure, and all the deliverances as evidence of His goodness and mercy to them who humbly seek Him.
As a human, we may have the tendency to see always what’s not working and to keep asking God for help regarding the challenges. It’s good to pray and let Him know our needs. But it’s vital to learn to praise God for what He has done. Giving thanks to the Lord for His goodness and His faithful love towards us, releases over us the heavenly atmosphere. In heaven the angels are praising Him day and night. Being here on earth, worship is for us a key to bring heaven down to earth but also allows us to become closer to our precious Lord who has done so much for us. Giving thanks to Him, praising Him,releasesGod’s favor. The devil hates when we worship Our God but when we do it in Spirit and in truth, he runs away allowing us to have victory over actual problems.
He are 14 reasons (only a few of many others) to praise God:
- He is good (Ps. 107:1).
- His mercy endures forever (Ps. 107:1).
- His redemption from the enemy (Ps. 107:2).
- His gathering of the people (Ps. 107:3).
- His salvation and deliverance from distresses (Ps. 107:6,19 / 107:13,28).
- His leading to a city (Ps. 107:7).
- His goodness and wonderful works (Ps. 107:8,15,21,31).
- His soul-satisfying powers (Ps. 107:9).
- Deliverance from darkness and the shadow of death (Ps. 107:14).
- Liberation from bondage (Ps. 107:14,16).
- Physical healing (Ps. 107:20; 91:1-12; 103:3; Ex. 15:26; Isa. 53:4-5 Mt. 8:17; Jn. 10:10; Jas. 5:14-16 1Pet. 2:24)
- Deliverance from destructions (Ps. 107:20).
- Deliverance from storms (Ps. 107:29-30).
- Material prosperity (Ps. 107:33-38).
Prayer: God almighty, I want to thank you for your outstanding goodness. Thanks for your faithful love that lasts forever. I decide to readjust my ways by taking more time to express my gratitude for all the things You have already done instead of seeing all the challenges and actual problems. I love you Lord and I ask you Holy Spirit to teach me how to worship my precious God that I love so much.
